GRAHAM Mr. Hugh Woody Guthrie, 84, of Graham died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 12:05 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Manie Williams Guthrie, who survives and the son of James C. Guthrie and Tacy Jane Woody Guthrie, both deceased. He retired from Bell South Telephone in Greensboro with 32 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Hugh was also a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include his son, Bobby Guthrie and wife Carolyn of Raleigh; a daughter, Codi Dudley of Manassas, VA; two granddaughters, Bobbi Ingold and Meridith Foster; and two great-granddaughters, Toni Ingold and Madison Foster.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Beulah Cobb, Nina Hess, Josie Ivey, Ruth Fox, Ellen Williams and Gwen McClure and five brothers, Harry, Colon, Glenn, Gray and Joe Guthrie.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel, 207 East Elm Street, Graham on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. by Rev. David King with the family receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the chapel. The entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
