GIBSONVILLE — Charles David "Chub" Gerner, age 58, of 511 Smith St., passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Bonnie Shearin Gerner and son of the late Charles Duggan and Virginia Childers Gerner. He was the retired owner of Reidsville Plumbing and an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shearin Gerner of the home; sons, Jason Gerner, Julian Gerner and wife Beth and Scott Wilson all of Gibsonville; granddaughter Alyssa Wilson; brothers, Jimmy Gerner of Whitsett and Dean Gerner and wife Debbie of Burlington; sister, Debbie Gerner Noah of Burlington and his special dog Lady and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Gerner and sister, Inez Gerner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Life's Journey United Church of Christ by Rev. Phil Hardy. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mr. Gerner will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday and at other times the residence
