GREENSBORO — Mrs. Jessie Lee Shropshire Whitt, 90, of Ashton Place, passed away on March 2, 2013.

Home going funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel, with the Reverends James Talbert and Marion Bolen. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Whitt was born in Greensboro, NC on August 6, 1922, the youngest of six children of Robert Bruce Shropshire and Nannie Sue Shropshire. She married James Melvin Whitt on January 31, 1941. They were married for over 50 years.

She spent her working career at Sears roebuck and Company as Division Manager. After retiring, she worked part time as a Sears Telephone Shopper and at Lakeview Memorial Park. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist and Sixteenth Street Baptist churches where she worked with the youth and sung in the choir.

She is survived by her son Dick Whitt and wife Lou of McLeansville; daughter Phyllis Lowe and husband Gary of Greensboro; son, Rev. Philip Whitt and wife Joy of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren Tammy Lowe, Kristen Crews, Kami Howe, Kelli Oliver; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Rebekah Shropshire, Janice Maness and husband JW; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ashton Place and Hospice for the care of Mrs. Whitt over the last two plus years.
