MEBANE — Margaret Rector Wilkinson, 82, of 300 N. Charles Street, Mebane, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 19, 2013 following an extended illness.

Margaret Wilkinson was born on February 21, 1930 in Greenville County, SC, daughter of the late J.D. and Eva Mae Rector. Margaret was a loving and dedicated mother and wife. She was married to the late Richard Vernon Wilkinson, Sr, a marriage of 53 years. Margaret and Richard met after his return from the Navy in the Pacific theatre during WWII. Margaret was preceded in death by 9 sisters and 1 brother.

Margaret was a retired employee of Western Electric, where she had a successful career of over 30 years. At Western, she was an inspector over various classified projects for the United States Military, including the assembly of some of the first tracking devices for bombs used during WWII. Margaret was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Margaret loved to spend time with her family and was a dedicated servant in her life-long walk with Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by sons Rick V. Wilkinson Jr. (Janice) of Summerfield and Mark S. Wilkinson of Mebane; grandchildren SPC. Jonathan Wilkinson and Amanda Wilkinson of Summerfield and Matthew Wilkinson (Mellanie) of Cleveland, TN; as well as step grand-daughter Michelle Maslyn of Greensboro; and four step great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wilkinson will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Burlington, 400 S. Broad St, Burlington, the same church in which Margaret was baptized and attended in her youth. The funeral proceedings will be conducted by grandson Matthew Wilkinson and Pastor Bill Daniels.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, February 21 at Walker's Funeral Home and following the funeral on February 22 at her home, 300 N. Charles Street, Mebane, NC 27302.
