MADISON — Sarah Jones Rakestraw, 80, of 850 Eagle Falls Road, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Smyrna Presbyterian Church where she was a member with Rev. John Holland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rakestraw was born in Tyrone Georgia to the late Ivy Johnny and Myrtice Flowers Jones and was a retiree of the Rockingham County EMS. She loved her work there with the paramedics and made many longtime friends. Most of all Sarah was a very caring mother and a devoted grandmother. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Price Rakestraw; son, Kim Rakestraw; sisters, Frances Hornbuckle and Jean Clarke and brother, Buford Jones.
Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Howell and husband, Randy; son, Scott Rakestraw and wife Margaret; grandchildren, Avery Mitchell and husband, Shawn, Whitney Chapmon, Nicole Wade, Chase Howell, Kimberly Earles, Dustin, Hannah, and Amelia Rakestraw; great grandchildren, Hunter and Alex McCoy, Shawn And Emily Mitchell and Braydon Wade.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
