GREENSBORO — Martha Sholar Jenkins went to be with her Lord on January 31. Born Feb. 22, 1925 to Armida Brunson Sholar and Henry Wiley Sholar in Sumter, SC, she was raised in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School. Martha attended Greensboro College and Brenau College in Gainsville, Ga. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Martha married Miles Ryan Jenkins on March 12, 1945. Miles died on April 10, 1985. She was also predeceased by her father, H. Wiley Sholar, daughter Carol J. Ayres, and brothers Michael B. Sholar and Henry Wiley Sholar. Martha was an active member of the Wesley Long Hospital auxiliary for 35 years and served twice as president. She served as chairman of their memorial gift program and was a Stephen minister and volunteer office worker at Starmount and Westminster Presbyterian churches. Martha was also active as a volunteer at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for over 25 years and was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star Chapter 379. She was also employed at MESH as a receptionist for ten years. She had been a resident of the Home since 2001.

Martha is survived by her mother, Armida B. Sholar of Greensboro; daughter, Ginny Jenkins Mobley and husband, Dr. Phil Mobley of Greensboro; and son-in-law Bruce Ayres and wife, Patsy Ayres, of Winston-Salem. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Rev. Dr. Jennifer Ayres of Atlanta, GA; David Bruce Ayres III and wife Ashley of Murphysboro, Ill; and Dr. Kevin Mobley and wife Shannon of Greenville, SC. Martha is also survived by brother Bill Sholar and wife, Lou of Winterhaven, Fla; sister-in-law Nancy Sholar of Advance, NC and seven great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at White Stone on Saturday at 2 p.m. Family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro or Whitestone, a MESH community.
