SEAFORD, NY Jacqueline Danelle Salvato, 85, passed away on January 5, 2013 due to complications from pneumonia. Jacqueline was predeceased in death by her loving husband Jerome J. Salvato. She was born in Bronx, NY and lived most of her adult life in Seaford, NY.
Jacqueline received a B.A. from Adelphi University and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Columbia University. Jacqueline began her career running a Bookmobile in Tacoma, Washington. She was a Reference and Young Adult Librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library for 8 years. Her professional career then took her to the Seaford Public Library for 25 years where she was Reference Librarian and later Director of the Library. Jacqueline was honored several times by inclusion in "Who's Who in American Women" for her many accomplishments.
In 1992, Jacqueline relocated to Greensboro, NC where she was active in The Greensboro Newcomers Club, numerous bridge groups and book discussion clubs. Jacqueline's most joyful moments were spending time with her granddaughters and attending their activities.
Jacqueline is survived by her daughter, Joanne Lahey, husband Donald and granddaughters Alexandra of Charlotte, NC and Katie of Greensboro NC. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to "Friends of the Seaford Public Library", 2234 Jackson Ave., Seaford, NY 11783.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. William the Abbot Catholic Church in Seaford, NY.
