
GREENSBORO Col. Winfred H. Meibohm, 92, was born September 22, 1920, in New Orleans, LA, to his parents, Hugo and Katherine Meibohm and passed away January 7, 2013, in Dallas, TX.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Lakeview Memorial Park with Rev. Daniel Koenig officiating.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rebecca. He is survived by his loving daughter, Mary Chambless and husband, George of Duncanville, TX; granddaughter, Rebecca Ruth Griffin; and two great grandsons of Lantana, TX; and several nieces.
Enlisting in April 1942, Col. Winfred was a veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for 27 years. Following his retirement from the USAF as a Colonel, he taught Political Science at Elon University from 1969-1972. From 1972-1980, he was a Civil Servant in the National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Dept. of Commerce completing his service as the Executive Director and a member of the Senior Executive Service.
