GREENSBORO — Lois Norton Bearden, 86, of Greensboro, NC, died Friday, December 21, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery in Savannah, GA. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC.
Known as a prolific letter writer with impeccable penmanship, Mrs. Bearden delighted hundreds of people each year with her hand-written notes. She had a quick wit and keen intelligence, and she enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 52 years and a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Ada Yeomans Norton and a brother, Dewey Norton.
Mrs. Bearden is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Delmas Bearden, Sr.; sons, James D. Bearden, Jr. and wife, Pam, of Durham, NC, Robert A. Bearden and wife, Donna, of Burlington, NC; sisters, Dorothy Bright, Doris Willoughby and husband, John, all of Savannah, GA; and grandchildren, Melissa, Tyler, Claire and Anna Bearden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edgewood Place at the Village of Brookwood, 1820 Brookwood Ave., Burlington, NC 27215 or to First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC 27401.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 4, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Greensboro following the 1 p.m. service. Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm St., Greensboro, is assisting the family.
