STOKESDALE Mrs. Madeline C. Richardson, 94, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Liberty Wesleyan Church with Rev. Danny Janes and Rev. David Surrett officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens.
Madeline was born in Guilford County, on March 11, 1918, the middle child of the late John Walter and Florence Pegram Combs, and has lived in Stokesdale all of her adult life. She was an LPN at Cone Hospital for many years, but worked on the farm with her husband and family most of her married life. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed needlework, raising flowers and gardening. For many years she sang in the choir at Stokesdale Christian Church where she taught Sunday School as well as leading the youth fellowship - devoting one week each summer to be a counselor at church camp. She was currently a member of Liberty Wesleyan Church, where she was a devoted Bible scholar and assistant teacher, active as long as she was able.
Surviving are her son Ted Allen Richardson and his wife, Rebecca; daughter Marian R. Webster and her husband A.G.; grandchildren Amy W. Howell, Angela R. Holt (Terry), Jason Allen Richardson (April), and Elizabeth Richardson; great grandchildren Zachary Holt, Austin Holt, Sarah Richardson, and Noah Richardson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allen Hall Richardson, grandson Britt Webster, and sisters Vera C. Wood, Era C. Powell, and Joan C. Wray, as well as a brother Leon Combs.
The family wishes to express their thanks for caregivers Virginia Wall, Sue Joyce and Tammy Westmoreland for their outstanding care and attention shown to Mrs. Richardson.
Mama loved God, the church and family, was a woman of simple faith and simple ways who gave of herself generously to people around her who were in need, and was a caregiver for her mother and other family members. Her greatest wish was that all of her family- children, grandchildren and their spouses would make Jesus Christ their savior and live for Him, so that we could all meet again in Heaven.
The family will receive friends this evening, Tuesday, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Brooke Chapel, and other times at her home.
Memorials may be directed to Liberty Wesleyan Church, 15303 Highway 158, Summerfield, NC 27358 or Teen Challenge, P.O. Box 14724, Greensboro, NC 27415.
