SUMMERFIELD — Mr. Vernon Tanner Evans, 83, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2012, at his daughter's home in Summerfield, NC where he had lived since March 2010.
A memorial service will be held next Saturday, September 22, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home, 21802 Lucille Road, Blakely, Georgia.
A native of Douglas, Georgia, Mr. Evans was born on January 27, 1929, the son of the late Talmadge and Marie Tanner Evans. Following twenty years service in the US Navy, Mr. Evan worked as a farmer.
Surviving are his daughters Carol Evans Leggett (Garry) and Sharon Evans Bush (Lamar); a son Ed W. Evans (Trudie); brother Van Evans; sister Billie Jo Foreman; a grandson Jay Bush; and a step-grandson Thomas Tye.
The family wishes to extend a special word of thanks to Mr. Evans' caregiver, Ellen Brown, for the loving care and attention shown to Mr. Evans over the last year and a half.
