SHAWNEE, KS — K. Ray Truitt, 67, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away June 17, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House with his wife, Vickie and Sounder The Beagle at his side.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the cemetery of First Baptist Church of Summerfield, with Rev. Roger Barricks officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.

Ray was born February 21, 1945 in Summerfield, North Carolina to Marvin and Edna Sheffield Truitt. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, Class of 1970. He received a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering-Health System Design in 1985 from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was a national Science Foundation Scholar. Ray worked in management positions at the University of Missouri Medical Center, the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals and was the Vice President for Planning & Marketing at Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Ray was the owner of Truitt Supply, an industrial supply company until his retirement in 2009. He was the past president of the Institute of Industrial Engineers/Health Services Division, was a member of the Hospital Information Management Systems Society, the Society of Hospital Planning and Marketing and the American Marketing Association. Ray was also a member of the Advisory Planning Committee of the Board of Public Utilities in Kansas City, KS and he served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Lake Quivira, KS.

Ray was an avid golfer and was the Match Play Club Champion at Lake Quivira Country Club. He was a passionate genealogist for his family, neighbors and friends in North Carolina and Virginia. His other hobby was financial investments. He shared Vickie's love of nature and wildlife conservation.

Ray is survived by his wife Vickie Mize Truitt, a former Shawnee City Council Member and Johnson County Park Commissioner, his daughter Paige Slaughter, Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Don Cresswell, Shoshone, Idaho, granddaughters; Lindsey, Anna, Beki and Mary Grace Slaughter, and Hannah Cresswell; grandson Ryan Cresswell, his brother and sister-in-law Penn and Lillian Truitt, Greensboro, North Carolina, niece Leslie Powell, nephews Ken and Mark Truitt and his dog, Sounder The Beagle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Guilford County Humane Society, 4525 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC, 27409.
