
GREENSBORO Christopher Robert Cleary, 40, of Greensboro, NC passed away on September 5, 2012.
Chris was born in Fitchburg, MA, the beloved son of Patricia and Frank Cleary.
A graduate of Binghamton High School in NY, Chris also attended GTCC. One of his proudest achievements was completing an Outward Bound course.
Chris was a founding member of Sanctuary House, a day program for individuals who suffer with a mental illness. He worked in the cafeteria at NC A&T University for the past eight years.
Chris had many gifts and talents which he shared through his volunteer efforts including reading for the blind, working with the elderly and as a spokesperson for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Chris was a loving husband and the pride of his family.
Chris is survived by his wife, Kathryn Peiffer Cleary; his parents Pat and Frank Cleary; his sister Kathleen (Cleary) Moncla and her husband Andy Moncla of Greensboro; brothers Michael of Broomfield, CO and Patrick of Hagerstown, MD; nephews Jacob and Brady Moncla, David and Michael Faltz and nieces Hailey, Emma and Cecilia Moncla and Carly Faltz. Kathryn's parents Nancy and Peter Peiffer; Kathryn's sister Robin (Peiffer) Faltz and her husband Steve of Cary.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church by Rev. James Duc H. Duong and Rev. Monsignor Anthony J. Marcaccio. St. Benedict's is located at 109 West Smith Street in Greensboro.
Friends will be received at St. Benedict's Parish Hall following the liturgy.
Interment will take place at the St. Pius X Columbarium following the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sanctuary House in Greensboro or NAMI Guilford County.
