GREENSBORO Julia O. (Judy) Adams, 87, of Greensboro, NC, passed away in her sleep on September 5, 2012 in Chapel Hill, NC after a brief illness.
Born in 1925 to Wister and Fay Owings, near Owings, SC, she was the second youngest of 7 children. She graduated from Western Carolina Teacher's College (now WCU). It was there where she met her husband, Willie. They married in 1947.
She is survived by her son, Andy, his wife, Jody, and their daughter, Emily, all of Hillsborough, NC. She is also survived by her younger brother, Joe Owings, of Belton, SC as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband Willie, sisters Lois Townsend, Gladys Hughes, Marian Frances Owings, Doris (Dot) Wilson and a brother, Paul Owings.
After Willie passed away in 1982, Judy busied herself with volunteer work at Muir's Chapel United Methodist Church and stayed active in the Aldersgate Sunday School Class until the last 18 months of her life. She also enjoyed travelling and spending time with her friends of 70 years, Mary Brown of Durham and Emogene Eddins of Greensboro. Her church family and friends were a constant source of strength and support through the years, seeing her through the ups and downs of life.
Visitation will be Friday, September 7 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service on W. Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. A funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Muir's Chapel Methodist Church in Greensboro. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Morven Cemetery in Morven, NC.
