GREENSBORO — Cdr. Darrell Lee Hayden, USCGR (Retired), 78, joined his Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday-August 29, 2012 at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, with military honors and Masonic Rites.

Darrell was born May 30, 1934 in High Point, NC to the late James Lee and Frances Livengood Hayden. He was retired from Carolina Steel after twenty-five years. He was an active member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church where he was the Co-Founder of Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries of N.C., a Certified Lay Speaker, Sunday School Teacher and a Former United Methodist Missionary. He also served as a volunteer tutor at Mendenhall Middle School for Vietnamese Refugees. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, where he served during Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm, retiring as Commander after 38 years of service. Darrell was a member of the Revolution Masonic Lodge #552 in Greensboro, the Greensboro Valley of the Scottish Rite and was a Shriner. Darrell was also a member of the American Legion Cone Post #386. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Hayden of High Point.

Survivors include wife Marcia Copeland Hayden, three daughters: Candace Faircloth and husband Jeff of Corapeake, Constance Cooley and husband Bryan of High Point, Camilla Hayden Bryan of Wilmington; two step daughters: Amy Lynn Stevens of Bardstown Kentucky, Anna Lee Fox of Colorado Springs, Colorado, nine grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Forbis and Dick-Guilford Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Magic Pillow Children's Ministry, c/o Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.
