WYTHEVILLE, VA Margaret Mae Hicks Baumgardner, age 88, of Wytheville, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Pulaski Health and Rehab Center. She was born in Welch, West Virginia and the daughter of the late Herbert H. Hicks and Grace Kirby Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband John Poague "Jack" Baumgardner, and a son Jerry Baumgardner. She was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Barbara Deal Circle, a Sunday school teacher, and served on many committees. She was a teacher in Wythe county school system for over 42 years, having served as Assistant Principal of George Wythe High School and Principal of Wythe County Vocational School. She enjoyed reading, walking, dancing, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Keith A. Baumgardner of Greensboro, NC; daughter in law, Mrs. Jerry L. Baumgardner of Princeton, NJ; grandchildren, Kathryn Baumgardner Wilson and Scott of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Baumgardner McKee and Mark of New York, NY, William Baumgardner of Lancaster, PA, John Baumgardner of Hoboken, NJ; great-grandchildren, Eloise Wilson of Brooklyn, NY and Charles McKee of New York, NY.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Wytheville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Denton officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Wytheville Baptist Church, Wythe County Rescue Squad, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or Charity of ones' choice.
