GREENSBORO Gerry Kirkpatrick, 88, passed away on April 11, 2012 at Friends Home West Skilled Nursing. She was born on January 2, 1924 in Guilford County to William Allen Cooper and Ora Pugh Cooper. She graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1941, attended Kings Business College in Greensboro, N.C. and worked in the Burlington Industries main office until 1950. Over the years she enjoyed golf, traveling, painting, sewing, playing bridge, bird watching, and various activities with loving family and many good friends. In more recent years, she was known for her hallway seasonal artistic exhibits at FHW. She was a member of Guilford Park Presbyterian Church and served as one of the early women Elders and was an active circle member for many years.
Gerry especially loved her family and is survived by her husband and sweetheart of 65 years, James Franklin Kirkpatrick, Sr., son Jim Kirkpatrick and his wife Jane, daughters, Jody Efird, and Janice Kirkpatrick, grandsons Jay Kirkpatrick and his wife Katharine, and Naval Lt. Jacob Efird, great grandchildren, Jeff, Eliza, and Maggie Kirkpatrick, sister-in-law Ruth Kirkpatrick, brother-in-law Dan Kirkpatrick, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother and his wife, Keith & Jennie Cooper, sister-in-law Barbara Kirkpatrick, and grandson John Kirkpatrick.
The family will receive friends at Forbis & Dick Funeral home at 5926 W. Friendly Ave. on Friday, April 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A gravesite service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Saturday April 14 at 10:30 a.m.
The family wishes to thank her doctors and the loving staff of FHW for their care and support during Gerry's illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be make to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, and the Friends Home West Assistance Fund of Greensboro.
