GREENSBORO - Mr. Howard Louis "Del" Carr, Sr., 103, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Wesley Long Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 13, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Mr. Carr was born in Portland, Maine, on January 11, 1905, and graduated from Portland High School in 1924. He spent most of his professional life in resort hotel management, along with service in the Army Air Force in World War II, and with Burlington Industries in the 1940's.
Mr. Carr came out of retirement in 1977 to assist Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, Sr. of Greensboro, until Mr. Bryan's death in 1995.
In recent years, Mr. Carr took great enjoyment in remaining active, going out to lunch almost every day in his wheelchair, accompanied by his son, Jonathan.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances; two sons, Jonathan Sutton Carr of Greensboro and Howard Louis Carr, Jr. of Wellesley, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Suzanna, Frances, Charlotte, Carolyn, and Christina.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel, which is serving the family.
