GREENSBORO — Wesley F. "Wes" Hankins passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012, at his home. He was 72. Wesley was born June 25, 1940 in High Point to Akers Lee Hankins and Alma Barnes Hankins.

He attended Allen Jay High School and graduated in 1961. He played various sports, but loved football best. He was employed by Burlington Industries, Marsh Armfield, and Olympic Products (a division of Cone Mills) later named Vitafoam. He retired at 58 and spent much time golfing and fishing. But his most important accomplishment in life was accepting Christ as his Savior on November 10, 2012, not knowing he would soon be with Him.

Having been married for 51years, he is survived by his wife Kathleen Stafford Hankins; his son, Kevin Hankins; grandchildren, Wesley Scott and Angel Haley Hankins. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Harold (Marilyn) Hankins; Eugene (Savannah) Hankins; Ray Dell Hankins; Shelby H. (Wilton) Benson, Nancy Hankins, sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Junior Hankins; and a son, Jeffrey Dean Hankins, who died in 2002.

Wes's best friend was Clarence (Buck) Varner who passed away in 2000. The Varner and Hankins families have been good friends for many years, taking yearly beach trips together. Towa V. McNair and Cara V. Wagoner have been wonderful and steady caregivers through the period of Wes' failing health, especially the last few weeks of his life. They are true and wonderful friends.

A service to celebrate Wes' life will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, in Archdale, with Pastor Mike Owen officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wes' memory may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

Online condolences may be made at www.cumbyfuneral.com

Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale.
