
GREENSBORO - Virginia Doris "Gin" McKee departed her life on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Glenhaven Nursing Home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at St. James Presbyterian Church, 820 Ross Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett presiding.
A native of Goldsboro, NC, Gin was born on June 28, 1928 to the proud parents of William and Mable Durham (deceased). While growing up in a loving Christian family, Gin accepted Jesus Christ at a young age.
Gin was educated in the public schools in Goldsboro, NC and graduated from Dillard High School and received her BS degree in Business Administration from North Carolina A&T State University. Gin's career in education began at A&T where she dedicated 41 years of faithful service, working with young people and helping to mold their lives.
Virginia was a devoted and loyal servant of St. James Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was admired and respected by all who knew her because of sincerity and humility, always greeting everyone with a warm friendly smile and never chose to say "No" to whomever she could help.
Gin met the love of her life Roger N. McKee (deceased) at North Carolina A&T State University and they married August 6, 1966 in Goldsboro, NC. She is survived by her devoted and loving family, sister, Marie Reid (Willie K), Columbia, South Carolina; niece, Patricia Howard; grandniece, Stephanie Howard; god-daughter Wendy Baker (Tony); brother-in-law, Retired Lt. Col. Jona McKee (Iris), Richmond, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Cornelia M. Johnson, Marlene M. Feaster, Arnetta M. Jessup (Belvin), Gwendolyn M. Sellars, all of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Many thanks to Community Home Care and Hospice of Burlington and special friend Clarence O. Williamson, Valarie Winstead (deceased), Sarah Raji, Shirley Surgeon, Gladys Berkley, Pam Allen and a special sister-in-law Marlene Feaster as her caretakers.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
The family will receive visitors at the home of Gwen M. Sellars, 1909 Finley Street.
