GREENSBORO Stephen "Steve" Mark Ozment, 46, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Wesley Long Hospital.
Steve was born on September 4, 1966, in Greensboro, NC, to Sidney and Ruth Ozment. He graduated from Page High School and spent the majority of his adult life in Guilford County. He was most recently employed in the Maintenance Department of Guilford County Schools.
Steve was quick-witted and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling a joke or funny story and enjoyed playing a prank. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and a Tar Heels fan. He enjoyed shooting hoops, fishing and being outdoors. Kure Beach, NC held a special place in his heart and he enjoyed many special moments and vacations there. If you are ever there walking along the beach or on the pier fishing and a handsome fellow, a gentle giant of a man, gives you a warm smile, a quick wink of the eye and a friendly greeting, you may very well have caught a glimpse of Steve.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Fortune Ozment. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Marie; son, Zachary Miles; daughter, Sydney Marie; step-daughters, Jessica and Gabrielle Jessup; sisters Patricia "Pat" Scales (Robert), Alice "Faye" Foy; Sharon Ozment and Jeanette Kirkman (Ace); nephews Jeff Jessup, Bobby Scales and Michael Williamson; niece Jennifer "Jenny" Scott (Phil); numerous cousins and other extended family.
The family would like to thank the many health care professionals at Wesley Long Hospital who have provided treatment, kindness and compassion to Steve in recent days including but not limited to Doctors Outlaw and Goodrich and nurses Angela, Samantha and Krystal. The family hopes that the lives of these individuals will be blessed as they have blessed Steve and his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Forbis and Dick Elm Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
