GREENSBORO — Mrs. Shelby Puckett Lucas, 69 died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Beacon Place following a long battle with breast Cancer. Shelby was born September 26, 1943, in Sanford, NC and grew up in Greensboro.
She was a long time employee of 26+ years at Friends Home Guilford where she enjoyed her job as laundry supervisor and was loved by many patients and staff.
In her 2+ year battle with Breast Cancer she remained very courageous, upbeat, and determined to fight as hard as possible. She was always eagerly accepting of any treatments that would help her fight her cancer to help her in her will to live.
Her pride and joy was her four grandsons. She loved spending time fishing, going to yard sales with them and her trips with her daughters. Her favorite outings were with her daughters and grandsons going out to eat at Crackle Barrel, Tex and Shirley's, and K&W.
She was preceded in death by parents Stella and Royce Burns and Brothers Eddie, Clyde, and twin brother Bobby Burns.
She is survived by husband Curtis Lucas, Daughters Ronda Campbell, husband Tim, Tracy Puckett Liu. Grandsons James, & Joseph Campbell, Dillon & Brandon Liu. Sisters Pauline Johnson, Kathleen Sports (Lonnie), her precious pet Adul, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff at Cone Health Cancer Center, Hospice Home Health Team, Moses Cone Palliative Care Unit and the staff and volunteers of Beacon Place. Our hearts will always be with you all.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, December 6 , 2012 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral home located at N. Elm Street. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at New Garden Moose Lodge (New Garden Road). The family will receive friends there Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
