

MADISON Roger Doyle Smith, 70, of 904 Parkway Avenue, passed Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at 1 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013, in Mount Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, Guess Road, Durham, NC, with honors provided by the NC State Highway Patrol Honor Guard.
Roger was born June 14, 1942, in Durham County, to the late Will Lewis Smith and Nettie Irene Holloway Smith. He was a graduate of Northern High School (1960), a US Army veteran (1966-1968), a graduate of the Institute of Government - Highway Patrol Basic Training School (1970) and was stationed in Rockingham County (Madison) with the NC State Highway Patrol for 27 years until his retirement in 1997.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, James Smith, Robert Lee Smith and Brenda Marcelle Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Perry Smith; children, Kristina Smith Easter (Kelly), Perry Doyle Smith and Tabatha Jeanne Smith; siblings, Lewis Edward Smith (Joy), Minnie Josephine Lynn, Nancy Irene Williams, Gloria Dale Moorefield and Charles Lee Smith (Alice); grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Hawkins (Adam Snyder), Braylon Landon Taylor, Bre-Anna Holt Easter and Cassie Leigh Easter; great-granddaughter, Adalayna Peyton Easter; sister-in-law, Ann Durham; nieces and nephews, Brandy, Rita, Lisha, Donnie, Kim, Karen, Todd, Brian, Ricky, Barry and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the home.
