HIGH POINT — Mr. Robert C. Gober, Sr. age 85 resident of Pennybyrn at Maryfield passed away there February 9, 2013.
Mr. Gober was born in Greenville, N.C. on June 6, 1927 to Powell Clifton and Sadie Ruth Johnston Gober. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Mr. Gober retired as Vice-President and General Manager of the Knit Division of Klopman Mills of Burlington Industries after thirty one year ; and was named "Boss of the Year" for the company in Virginia. Mr. Gober and his wife retired to this area and made their home at Pennybyrn at Maryfield, where he attended Mass and enjoyed his photography, gardening, and music as long as his health permitted.
Surviving are his wife, whom he married in 1950, Mrs. Jeanne Corcoran Gober of Maryfield and a daughter, Karen Diaz of New York, New York. Mr. Gober has two sons, Robert Gober, Jr. of Maryland and Rodger Gober and wife Margaret of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and one sister; Nancy Kempf of Vinton, Va. There are two grandchildren, Matthew Diaz and Carla Diaz and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S. celebrant. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
