GREENSBORO — Robert Blackwell Lloyd Jr. passed away on February 13, 2012 at his home, 2602 Lake Forest Drive, Greensboro, NC.

He was born in York, Pennsylvania, where he spent his childhood, before moving to Greensboro, North Carolina for Senior High School. He then proceeded to Harvard College, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, and went on to graduate Cum Laude in 1947. Afterwards he attended law school at Duke University where he graduated in 1950.

He was a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law and assisted in the founding of the section of Estate Planning and fiduciary Law of the N.C. Bar Association, of which he was Chairman. As a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel since 1976, he acted as North Carolina Chairman of the College, and was a member of its Editorial Board and Practice Committee, following service as a Committee Chairman of the America Bar Association, Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law during the period 1975-1985. He also assisted in the establishment of the Certified Specialization in Estate Planning and Probate Law in North Carolina, serving as the Chairman of the Probate specialty Committee when it certified the first Probate specialists in 1987. He later served for six years as a member of the NC Board of Legal Specialization which governs all Certified Specialties under the jurisdiction of the N.C State Bar. Since 1985, He was also a permanent member of the Judicial Conference of Fourth Federal Circuit. He was also listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Probate Law and in Who's Who in American Law.

He was a partner and principal at Block, Meyland & Lloyd from 1952 to 1990, he later went on to serve as a founding Principal at Turner, Enochs & Lloyd from 1991 to 2002. In 2002, he was a founding Principal in Lloyd, Miller & Associates until 2008. He finished his career in 2009, after working at Higgins & Benjamin from 2008-2009.

As an active member of the community, He was a long standing member of the Greensboro Lions Club beginning in 1950. He served as the District Chairman of the General Greene Council of the Boy Scouts of America from 1962-1965.

He was an original member of the Board of Directors for the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro from 1976 to 1980. From 1974 to 1976 he served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Symphony Society.

His religious commitments included Deacon, Elder, Chairman of Board of Deacons and Clerk of Session, at Starmount Presbyterian Church from 1960 to 1990. In 1990, he became an Elder and member of the Endowment Committee at First Presbyterian Church.

He served with the U.S Navy Reserve during World War II as Electronic Technician's Mate and was on inactive duty from 1945-1961, retiring as Lieutenant, following Reserve Participation on Inactive Duty during wars in Korea and Vietnam.

He is preceded in death by Robert Blackwell Lloyd III.

Surviving members of his family, include his wife, Mary Ruth Lloyd, Greensboro; his daughter, Lisa Ruth Lloyd of Greensboro; his son, Robert Bradford Lloyd of Greensboro and his granddaughter, Gabriela Lloyd-Perez of Byron Bay, Australia.

A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2 p.m.
