
HIGH POINT Mrs. Regina (Gene) M. Schmitt, age 84, died peacefully Saturday, July 14 at Hospice Home at High Point.
Mrs. Schmitt was born October 21, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Meehan Collier. She was a 1945 Graduate of Carrick High School and had been a resident of this area since moving here from Irwin, Pennsylvania in 1976. An active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic, she served on the Bereavement Committee, the church Altar Committee and the young at heart club. She also was a member of St. Edwards Women's Club.
Regina is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Ray Schmitt of the home; one daughter, Karen Auler and her husband John of Asheboro; four sons, Raymond Schmitt, Jr. and his wife Nancy Copley of Falmouth, Massachusetts, William Schmitt and his wife Pamela of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Thomas Schmitt and his wife Patricia of Lakemont, Georgia and David Schmitt and his wife Marti of Apex; and one sister, Marie Hughes of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Joseph C. Zuschmidt O.S.F.S. celebrant. The family will greet friends in the gathering area of the church one hour prior to the service and at a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point.
