CLIMAX — Mrs. Minnie Ruth Purvis Barfield, 81, departed from this life on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Salem Terrace.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2011 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, with Chaplain Dan McKenney officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Anson County, to the late Jonny and Hattie Mae Purvis, Mrs. Barfield attended Pleasant Garden Lighthouse Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who knew the true meaning of homemaking. Spending time with her family was the highlight of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Douglas Everett Barfield.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James Barfield and wife Gloria of Pleasant Garden, Ernest Barfield of King, and Alton Barfield of Asheboro; daughters, Sarah Martin of Climax, Alliene Reynolds of Climax, Martha Roach of Pleasant Garden, Serena Faye Edwards of Franklinville; step-children, H.D. Barfield and wife Dolly of Texas, Frances Wise and husband Dewey of Texas, and Alma McNeal of South Carolina; sister, Margaret Scott and husband Jack of South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the home of James and Gloria Barfield 1717 Rosswood Rd., Pleasant Garden, NC 27313.
