DANVILLE, VA — Mattie Rush Giles passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born on November 26, 1914 in Bristol, VA, a daughter of the late Bill and Maggie Rush.
Mattie worked at Dan River Mills for 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very caring person and a friend to all. She enjoyed working in her flowers, shopping, needlework, and spending time at Lake Norman with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Giles, her son-in-law, James Garrett Lawrence, and 13 siblings.
Mattie is survived by her daughter, Gerri Lawrence of Greensboro, NC, granddaughter, Donna Lawrence Sugg and husband Joe of Julian, NC, great-grandson, Garrett Sugg of Red Bank, NJ, great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Sugg of Greensboro, NC, and sister-in-laws, Eva Oakley of Riedsville, NC, Earnestine Rush of Abingdon, VA, and Earnestine Rush of Hayesville, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel with Reverend Tim Earnhardt and Reverend Sarah Doss officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Townes Funeral Home.
