GREENSBORO - Marjorie H. Blackwell, 78, of Greensboro died Friday, November 2, 2012.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at Guilford College United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Marjorie was born and raised in the Bessemer area, attending grades 1-12 at Bessemer. She thereafter attended Greensboro College. She married Edwin "Eddie" Harrison Blackwell, Jr. in June of 1953, the beginning of 59 years of happy marriage. She was a member of Guilford College United Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving lunch for seniors at GCUMC Senior Prom and was a long time member of the garden club. Marjorie taught preschool while in Miami. As a Navy wife she lived in or near Brunswick, GA, Jacksonville, FL, Memphis, TN, Philidelphia, PA, Chicago, IL, Virginia Beach, VA and Miami, FL.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, "Mack" and Daphanel Hayes, her grand-daughter Sarah Lynn Angel and son-in-law Ricky Lynn Angel. She is survived by her husband Edwin H. Blackwell, Jr.; sons, Edwin III, William Scott, Steven Mark and David Todd Blackwell; and daughter, Marjorie Lynn Angel. Also surviving are two brothers, Steven and Michael Hayes, sister-in-law June Hayes, and eight grandchildren, Valerie Lynn and Lauren Lynn Angel, Karli Mikel, Cory Scott, Shelby Patricia, Madeleine Sarah and Elizabeth Claire Blackwell, and Haley Kiser.

As her list of children and grandchildren attest, Marjorie's great love was raising and caring for young ones and she left each child and grandchild with a memory of love, kindness and compassion which will last forever.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Guilford College United Methodist Church, 1205 Fleming Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410.
