GREENSBORO Margaret Fuquay Spain passed away in her sleep Friday, February 1, 2013. Margaret was born January 12, 1924 in Lillington, NC the sixth and sole remaining child of James Neill Fuquay and the former Margaret Holmes Spears.
Margaret attended Peace College, but met and married William Joseph Spain, Jr. after her first year. She and Bill lived in several places over their 45 years together: Denver, Charlotte, New York, Graham, NC, Burlington and finally Greensboro. Margaret was the manager at both Will's Bookstore and Smith Furniture. After retiring she lived for several years in Seattle, WA in a high rise apartment overlooking Lake Union before returning to Greensboro.
Margaret is preceded in death by Bill and by three of her sons - Pat, Mike and Tom. She is survived by sons Bill and Chris (partner Beverly Price) and daughters Casey Durango (husband Hernan) and Mary; daughter-in-law Caye Spain (Tom's widow); grandchildren Heather and Patrick (Tom's children), Lindsay, Justin and Christian (Casey's children).
There was nothing Margaret enjoyed more than the loud, laugh-filled gatherings of her family and as such a celebration in her honor will be held on Saturday February 16 at the home of Casey and Hernan Durango, 1703 Clarendon Drive, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be jokes and tears. There will be funny stories about Margaret told. Some may even be true. They will all be told with love.
