GREENSBORO — Lois H. Melnyk, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at her home.

Lois was born on January 26, 1924 in Greensboro, the daughter of Emmet and Mamie Howell Hodgin.

She worked with the L & E Packaging Company until her retirement. She loved to feed the birds and squirrels, grow flowers, and share vegetables from her garden with her neighbors. But the greatest love of her life was her family, whom she loved and treasured.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Melnyk and grandson Mark Melnyk. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons; Steve and wife Charleen Melnyk of Randleman, NC, Mike Melnyk of Greensboro, NC, Phil Melnyk and wife Terri of Whitsett, NC; grandchildren, Michelle Tippett and husband Jon of Randleman, NC, Dee Melnyk of Whitsett, NC, Susie Straub and husband Darrin of Woodstock, GA; great grandchildren, Madyson Tippett, Kennedy Joyce, Abby Straub, Michael Straub and brother, John Hodgin and wife Winnie of Oviedo, FL. and her special Hannah, her Jack Russell Terrier.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, 1 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park with Chaplin Chris Morris officiating.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the care given to Lois by Dr. Gary Sherrill and Susan of the Cancer Center and Paula G, Anne, Regina, and Pam and volunteers from Hospice of Greensboro.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is assisting the Melnyk family.
