GREENSBORO — Mrs. Lillian "Lil" Kraemer Thorne passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2012 at Beacon Place. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina (off Pisgah Church Road).
Lillian, or "Lil" as she preferred, was born on December 20, 1928 in Nyack, New York to Albert and Maude Brooke Kraemer. On May 30, 1948, Lil married John E. Thorne at Ladentown Methodist Church in Pomona, New York. The couple lived in both Florida and New York before moving to Greensboro in 1978. During their life together, Lil and John traveled widely and crossed the United States twice by car.
She was employed by Tinsley-Clark Company as a Secretary and Bookkeeper until her retirement in 1993. Lil had a fascination with owls and took pride in her personal figurine collection that boasts more than 200 owls. Throughout her life, she enjoyed caring for her dogs, most recently, Tara-An.
Lillian is preceded in death her parents, two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 64 years, John Thorne of the home; her life-long friend Carl Blankenship; sister, Barbara Kraemer Vanatta of Pomona, New York; and nephews John Coffman and Ronald O'Dell.
There will be no formal visitation.
