GREENSBORO — Lennie Jackson Compton, Jr., 85, died Monday, December 24, 2012, at Beacon Place Hospice. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel with the Dr. Rev. Charles H. Howell officiating.

Lennie was born July 31, 1927, in Northfork, WV and attended Beaver High School in Bluefield, WV. Following high school he went to V.P.I. and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Marketing degree in 1951. He was a member of PHI Chapter of the ATD Fraternity. He served in the 5th Air Force- 308th Bomber Wing in the Pacific Theater and the 475th Fighter Squadron.

Lennie worked in Sales and Marketing at Bluefield Motors, Tinder White Trucks, White Motor Corp. and retired from Volvo-White Heavy Trucks corporate office in Greensboro, NC.

Lennie was a member of Trinity UMC, Fincastle Country Club, Lions and Civitan's clubs of Greensboro and the Bluefield Sales Executive Club. He had a love for woodworking, crafts and art.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lennie Jackson Compton, Sr. and Louise Colston Compton; a sister, Laura Lee; and a brother, Paul Compton.

He is survived by his wife, Alta R. Compton, of the home; two sons and a daughter: Lennie Jack Compton, and wife Betsy of Charlotte, NC; daughter Amy Hollis Compton; and son Jeffrey Robert Compton and wife Diane; two grandchildren, Ryan and Chase Compton; two great-grandchildren, Baylee and Roman Compton; niece Lennie Tabor and nephew Paul Thomas Compton; and his fury companion and love of his life, his dog Sammy.

Lennie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to all who knew him.
