GREENSBORO Katharine (Kitty) Lambe Leigh was born in Durham to Blanche Townsend Lambe and Floyd Lambe April 26, 1912. She was raised in Greensboro and graduated from high school and Womans' College - now UNCG (1933). In 1935 she married Richard (Dick) Henry Leigh. They lived in Durham and were married for 52 years. Kitty was an active member of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church and the Junior League.
Kitty worked as a Medical Technologist at Medical Arts Group in Durham for a number of years. In 1997 she moved to WellSpring Life Care Retirement Community in Greensboro. Here she took full advantage of all opportunities, line dancing, water aerobics, yoga, serious Bridge, concerts and other activities. She baked bread every week sharing it with friends. On the Hospitality Committee for WellSpring, she visited new residents, taking a loaf of her bread.
She is survived by her son Dick Leigh and wife Hilda of Raleigh, her daughter Cokie Leigh Blake and husband Robin of Columbia, MO. Her grandchildren are Susan Leigh and husband Ted Dougherty of Hoboken, NJ, Anne Leigh Wankel and husband Daniel of Hendersonville, NC, Kevin Blake and wife Pam of Sun Prairie, WI, and Russell Blake of Weimar, Germany. Her great grandchildren are Andie and Emerson Dougherty, Jack, Benton, and Kerrigan Wankel and Ellie Blake.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday January 26 at WellSpring, 4100 WellSpring Dr., Greensboro, NC.
