GIBSONVILLE — Jerry D. Wheeler, 76, died on July 14, 2012.

A 2 p.m. graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Jerry was born April 26, 1936 in Greensboro to the late Jesse and Minnie Wheeler. He was a retired Captain of 23 years with The Greensboro Fire department. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Tabasco Lodge #271 as well as a Shriner of Oasis Temple, Charlotte, NC. Additionally, Jerry was a member of The American Legion, Cone Post 386 and the N.R.A.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra C. Wheeler, as well as a daughter, Leslie K. Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Jesse O. Wheeler, Jr. and by sister Betty W. Rhew.

Survivors include daughter Debra Lynn Wyrick and husband, Robbie, of Gibsonville, step-daughter Lynne Kerley of the home, brothers Richard T. Wheeler and Jack C. Wheeler of Orlando, Florida, granddaughter Christina Marsh and husband Daniel, as well as great-grandson Garrett Marsh and great-granddaughter Bailey Marsh.

In lieu of flowers Jerry requested memorial donations be made to , P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN, 38101-9929. He often said, "Those children with cancer need money more than he needed flowers."

Forbis and Dick North Elm Street is assisting the Wheeler family.
