STOKESDALE — James Melvin "Pee Paw" Lamkin, 67, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Lamkin was born December 24, 1944, in Cherokee County, to Dale Galloway Lamkin and the late Frank Lamkin . He was employed with Pilot Travel Center and formerly employed with North Carolina Highway Patrol in Rockingham County. "Pee Paw" loved fishing, shooting black powder guns, playing with his grandchildren and great-grandbabies. Jim had a great sense of humor and was a big teaser who will be greatly missed.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brother, Bob Lamkin, and step-daughter, Debbie Amend.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 23 years, Shirley Lamkin of the home; daughter, Jamie Lamkin; step-daughters, Sandy Ricketts (David) and Diane Thackerson (David); brother, John Lamkin (Lana); sisters, Kathy Lingerfelt, Jeanne Valliere (Gregg), Julia Reep (Tim) and Linda Spencer; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at Huntsville Community Center, 1151 Sardis Church Road, Madison.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
