THOMASVILLE — Reverend James Dewey Luther, 66, a resident of 8 Elm St. died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

He was born on March 7, 1946 in Anson County, NC to James Solomon Luther and Lamer Mae Previtte Luther. He graduated from Piedmont Bible College and was a minister of the Baptist faith for 20+years. He was a US Marine Corp. veteran and a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Salisbury as a veteran service coordinator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Dunlap; and a step-son, Gregory Silvers.

On May 11, 1996, he married Martha Ellen Martin, who survives of the home; also surviving are three daughters, Debbie Joyce and husband Dwayne of Mayodan, NC, Tammy Oakley and husband Gabriel of Madison, NC, and Becky Lemons and husband Scott of Stoneville, NC; step-children, Alisa Roach and husband David, and Wade Bacon, all of Thomasville; sister, Mary Crawford of Lilesville, NC; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Joey Langley officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at other times at the home or at the home of daughter, Debbie Joyce, 800 W. Main St., Mayodan, NC.
