GREENSBORO — Irene Tilley Clapp, 95, of Friends Homes Guilford passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Irene was born in Guilford County on August 12, 1917 to the late Arthur and Maggie Tilley. She was a member of First Friends Meeting and the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge #51. Irene's working career included the original O. Henry Hotel, Thalheimers, Paul Rose, Bestway, and the Guilford County School System where she retired as a member of the dietary staff.

For many years, Irene loved sewing and travelling. While living at Friends Homes Guilford for the last 16 years she participated in their activities and social events. She brightened many people's day with her beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hugh Van Clapp, her brothers John Tilley, Boyd Tilley and Roy Lee Tilley, and her sisters Mary Tilley and Hattie Mae Hodgin.

She is survived by her brothers L.C. Tilley and J. D. Tilley, daughter Dawn Carter, sons John Clapp (Linda) and Ronald Clapp (Linda); grandchildren Pam Reese (Jim), Karen Dunman, Jimmy Dunman (Rhonda), Laura Sanders (Pete), Richard Clapp (Kendra), Jason Clapp and Adam Clapp and great-grandchildren Liam Dunman, Sophie Sanders and Brayden Clapp.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Friends Homes Guilford, the staff at Whittier Skilled Nursing, Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro and many faithful and loving friends.

The family will be at the home of the daughter and welcomes visits any time and also after the service.
