GREENSBORO — Hattie S. James was born on September 19, 1930 in Montgomery County, NC. She departed this life on February 2, 2013 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Lacy Steele and Mrs. Elesteen Pankey Steele. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Steele of Mt. Gilead, NC. She was a former employee of Sears Roebuck Company with over 20 years of service.
Survivors include, her husband, Leo K. James, one daughter, Nola Lewis (Larry) and one son, Leenard James both of Greensboro, NC. Two sisters, Mary Woods of Livingston, NJ and Pauline Mack of Greensboro, NC, two brothers, Lacy Steele Jr, and Peter Steele both of Mt. Gilead, NC, three grandchildren, Sonya Lewis Cook (Joe), Artelius Lewis (Tia) and Larry Lewis Jr, (Choo-Choo) all of Greensboro, NC, one sister-in-law, Della Steele of Mt. Gilead, NC, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The wake will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Community Funeral Home, 2003 East Market Street, Greensboro, NC from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. and the Homegoing service will be on February 8, 2013 at Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church, 233 Thomasville Church Road, Mt. Gilead, NC at 2 p.m.
