HIGH POINT — Mr. Eugene C. McCray, Sr., 87, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Frances (Nogosky) to whom he was married to for 63 years.
Mr. McCray was born on April 11, 1925 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Vander and Jessie (Blevins) McCray. He was a coal miner for 21 years and also worked for several furniture companies around the area.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Mr. McCray enjoyed spending time with his friends and neighbors talking about the day, or offering to cut their lawns to stay busy. He would also drive to visit his family in Greensboro every day to say hello and give their dogs special treats. He was fond of animals and had taken many rescues into his loving home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCray is survived by a daughter Debra M. Jordan and her husband, Dub of Julian; a son, Eugene C. "Corky" McCray, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Julian; six grandchildren, Leigh Gregory and her husband, Dave of Wilmington, Brian McCray and Ashley Cook of Greensboro, Ben McCray of Greensboro, Drew Shepherd of High Point; and Haley and Hunter McCray of Julian; a great granddaughter, Madison Gregory of Wilmington; a brother, Ralph McCray and his wife, Mary of High Point; many nieces and nephews; and his precious cats, Oscar and Pineapple.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point. A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at 7:30 p.m with Rev. Mel Anderson officiating.
