MAYODAN — Mr. Ernest Lee "Doc" Griffin, 77, of Mayodan passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden following years of declining health.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Ellisboro Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Darrell Brumfield. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be no home visitation.

Doc was a retired employee of Duke Power and a US Army veteran. He was a member of Ellisboro Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Irving Griffin; his three sons and their wives, Billy and Gina of Stoneville, Kevin and Amy of Mayodan, and Tommy and Janet of Trinity; his five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; his brothers and their wives, Benton and Dot of Mayodan and Michael and Easter of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur B. and Bessie Clark Griffin, his brothers, William "Billy" Griffin, and Mack Griffin; and his sister, Betty Jane Collins.

The family requests no flowers, but asks that any memorials be made to Ellisboro Baptist Church, 1604 Ellisboro road, Madison, NC 27025 for project support.
