GREENSBORO — Erline Jessup Winfree, age 84, died peacefully on March 16, 2013 at the Carriage House.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 18 at First Baptist Church of Summerfield, 2300 Scalesville Road, Summerfield. A joint memorial service for her and recently departed husband of 65 years, Herman Winfree, will be held at 3 p.m. following the visitation. Burial will be at the cemetery at the church immediately following. Pastors Deryl Holliday and Jacelyn Jones will officiate.

Erline was born in rural Guilford County to the late Bertha and Guilford Jessup. In 1947, she married Herman Winfree, who died on January 14, 2013. Together they raised two daughters and two sons. Erline sacrificed much for her family and friends and gladly supported Herman as he pursued his education and a career in law. She was especially nurturing and loved all living things. She and Herman were foster parents for a number of years, and cared for others in need. She was devoted to her family and instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of nature - all things great and small. She and Herman enjoyed traveling and saw much of the world together.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Ray Jessup. Surviving to cherish her memory are daughter, Tyra, her husband William Martin of Oak Ridge; daughter, Beverly, her husband, John Banaszak of Greensboro; son, Charles Herman and daughter-in-law, Karen Richter, of Greensboro; and son, John Charles of Cornelius, NC; brother, John Guilford Jessup of Greensboro; brother, Harry Wayne Jessup and wife, Helen, of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Nadine Williams, and husband, "Curley," of Rutherfordton; and sister, Brenda Cockerham, of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and wonderful caregiver, Pam Overby. The family would like to express its gratitude to the wonderful staff at Hospice and the Carriage House for their compassionate and professional care during Erline's final days.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Greensboro Hospice and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405; First Baptist Church of Summerfield Transportation Fund, 2300 Scalesville Road, Summerfield, NC 27358; or Adult Center for Enrichment, P.O. Box 13048, Greensboro, NC 27415. Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home is assisting the family - www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com
