MILTON — Ellen Vernon Robertson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, went home to be with the Lord the morning of Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Born in Danville, VA, the second of six children, to the late Eldridge and Jean Hines Vernon, who survives, she graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville and lived most of her life in Milton, NC. Along with her husband and daughters, she spent thirty pleasurable years growing and caring for flowers at Countryside Greenhouses. She shared this joy with all of her friends and neighbors in the surrounding area.

Ellen was preceded in death by her sister and her father: Claudia Vernon Smith and Eldridge Vernon. She is survived by: her best friend and loving husband of 29 years Lindsey Franklin Robertson, of the home; two daughters: Stokes Robertson Reagan and husband, Jonathan of Milton, NC and Elizabeth Ashley Robertson of Asheville, NC; two grandsons: Austin Robertson and Patrick Reagan of Milton, NC; Brothers and Sister: David Vernon and wife, Ellen of Danville, VA, Bruce Vernon and wife, Alison of Efland, NC, Amy de la Cruz of Miami, FL, William "Billy" Vernon and wife Vicki of Milton, NC; and fifteen nieces and nephews and many special friends.

She lived for time spent with her grandsons: playing lightsabers with Austin and peek-a-boo with Patrick. She enjoyed playing piano and singing in the choir at New Hope United Methodist Church, breakfast at The Drug Store with the Coffee Club, and traveling.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Blanch, NC, where she was a life-long and active member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will see friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the church.

We would like to thank the many members of the community who have provided prayers, love, and support to Ellen and her family. It is greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, at Ellen's request, donations and contributions may be made to The Community Foundation, Claudia Vernon Smith Fund, 541 Loyal St, Danville, VA 24541 or New Hope United Methodist Church, 198 Old Satterfield Rd, Milton, NC 27305.
