GREENSBORO — Christine Williams Sandford, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Christine was born January 6, 1922 in Johnston County, NC to the late Jesse Slocumb Williams and Glo Vennie McLamb Williams. She received her nursing degree from Parkview Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC in 1945. After moving with her family to Greensboro in 1952, she worked at Wesley Long Hospital in the late 1950's and later for Dr. B.J. Christian in his family practice. She finished her career as first-shift nurse for P. Lorillard, retiring in 1970. Christine was a former member of the Nurses' Auxillary and the Ivy Garden Club. She was active in the fellowship at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel for many years. She will be remembered as a gracious, warm and generous lady who loved looking after family and friends. Her beautiful smile will be missed, but her sweet spirit will live on in our memory and warm our hearts always.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilbur Samuel (Sam) Strickland and Reid W Sandford, Jr.; granddaughter, Laurin Beth Alexander; sister, Maline Betts; brother, Edward R Williams; and step-son-in-law, Bob Livingston.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Alexander (Tom); daughter, Gloria Strickland; granddaughter, Summer Alexander; step-daughter, Diane Livingston; step-son, Reid W Sandford III (June); step-granddaughter Allissa Way (John); step-great-grandchildren Jack and Caroline Way, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel.
