WILMINGTON Christine Andrews Williams, formerly of Greensboro, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2012 at Davis Healthcare Center in Wilmington, NC.
Chris was born on March 31, 1918 in Durham, NC to Lenora Broadwell Andrews and Lee David Andrews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, three sisters and one brother.
She moved to Greensboro in 1937 where she met and married Robert Williams and lived for the next 74 years. She worked as a preschool teacher for over thirty years at First Baptist Church. She was an active member of the church teaching Sunday School and Bible School and was one of the founding members of the church's outreach program in the 1960's that started Central Baptist Chapel. She worked tirelessly there for many years, believing that "if you can get the little children to come to church, then hopefully the parents will follow". Chris loved the Lord with all of her heart
She is survived by her daughters Judith Womble and husband Don of Wilmington and Jill Pegram and husband Mark of Greensboro, grandchildren Jack Womble and wife Lori of Wilmington, Molly Schneider and husband Robert of Chapel Hill, and Caitlin Gerrald and husband Will of Rock Hill, SC, great-grandchildren Lucy, Lily and Jackson Womble, Laine and Lee Schneider and Henry Gerrald, sister Doris Luquire of Durham and several nieces and nephews.
She was a special lady and will be greatly missed by her loving family.
A memorial service will be held on January 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church Greensboro. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. A private inurnment will be held at the church columbarium.
