CHARLOTTE — Benjamin Tillman Alexander, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012. He was born on April 8, 1933 in Charlotte, NC to Ben and Johnnie T Alexander. He was educated in Charlotte public schools, Riverside Military Academy, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He g raduated from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV. He was employed by Merck, Sharp, and Dohme for thirty-two years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Peggy Kemble.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Evelyn Farmer Alexander; a son, Benjamin Alexander, III and his wife Glenda of Apex, NC; a daughter, Joyce Johnston and her husband, Middleton of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Holly and Benjamin Alexander IV of Apex, NC and James and Hutton Johnston of Greensboro, NC; and one sister, Jacqueline Marshall of Waldo, FL.

A graveside service will be held at Hughes Cemetery in Avery County, NC on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at 11 a.m., followed by visitation at Chestnut Dale Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at Ridge Road Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. followed by visitation in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ridge Road Baptist Church, 2011 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
