GREENSBORO — Benito Bonaccorsi passed away on January 31, 2013 in Lake Worth, FL.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 12:15 p.m. at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Benito was born in Candeis, Minas Gerais, Brazil on June 1, 1929, the son of Italian parents Campesan and Jose Bonaccorsi. The family returned to Tuscany, Italy in 1933. Benito received his education from elementary to classic Lyceum in Lucca, Italy. In 1955, he graduated from The University of Pisa as a Doctor of Medicine.

Benito came to the USA in 1956 (on the ill-fated ship, The Andrea Doria). He did a residency in pathology followed by a residency in surgery at the New York Medical College.

Returning to Italy in 1964, Dr. Bonaccorsi was a surgeon at The Policlinico San Giorgio in Pordenone in the Veneto region of Italy. He then became a physician for the US Air Force personnel at Aviano Air Base in Aviano, Italy. There he met his wife to-be Mary DeCarli, a teacher. They were married at the base chapel. In 1967 they returned to the USA where Dr. Bonaccorsi first worked as a surgeon at the Parkway Hospital in Queens, NY. I n 1969 Benito and Mary moved to Connecticut where Benito became a member of the surgery staffs in both local hospitals in Waterbury, CT. He was admitted as a member of The American College of Surgeons in 1976. He retired in 1999.

In 2004, Benito and Mary moved to Greensboro where their daughter had married and received her masters and doctoral degrees from UNCG.

Dr. and Mrs. Bonaccorsi also have a son who is a graduate of Yale University and is also a physician in California.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bonaccorsi; daughter, Diane Melton (Gary) of Stokesdale; son Marco Bonaccorsi (Sandy) of El Cajon, CA; four beautiful granddaughters, Reagan, Jordan, Daniela and Analisa; and also three nieces in Italy.
