GREENSBORO — Barbara Leggett Best, 75, peacefully went home to be with Lord on November 7, 2012 after battling with cancer. She fought a good fight and was faithful to the end.
Celebration of her life will be shared on Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Greenville, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. A butterfly release to commemorate her triumph will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park.
A native of Greenville, Barbara lived in Norfolk, VA for 30 years and spent her last year with her daughter in Stokesdale, NC.
Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She possessed a beautiful servant's heart that will serve as her legacy. From preparing lovely holiday celebrations for family and providing a private food pantry for the needy to being a prayer warrior and a caregiver, Barbara lived her life in a spirit of beauty and excellence.
Her joys in life were cooking and baking tasty foods, decorating, arts and crafts, traveling, butterflies, bird watching and gardening. Nothing gave her more joy than playing the piano and singing unto the Lord.
Barbara and her family will forever be in thoughtful appreciation for the compassionate care of the staff at Ashton Place Rehab in McLeansville, NC, for the superior expertise and overwhelming commitment to patient care at the Wesley Long Cancer Center in Greensboro, NC and for the love and peace during her final days at Beacon Place, the Hospice and Palliative Care Facility in Greensboro, NC We will forever be changed.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, James F. Leggett and Lossie B. Leggett, of Norfolk, VA, her sister, Edna L. Whittington, of Chesapeake, VA, her brother, Kermit L. Dickerson, of Murfreesboro, TN and her former husband, Donald A. Best, of Portsmouth, VA.
Her legacy is rising up in the family she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Joyner, of Stokesdale, NC, her grandchildren, Bentley and Deidre Hardee of Candler, NC and Christopher and Kristin Hardee of Sunset Beach, NC, her sister-in-law, Betty Dickerson, of Murfreesboro, NC and four nephews and three nieces.
