REIDSVILLE — Arthur Joseph "Joe" Tyson, Jr., 59, of Wilmington, NC entered into a peaceful sleep, with his mother by his side, on Thursday June 14, 2012 at Avante of Reidsville. He had been in declining heath for several years.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday June 23, 2012 at Lake Forest Baptist Church 1626 Lake Branch Dr. Wilmington, NC with military honors. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service.

Joe lived most of his life in Wilmington, where he attended elementary school. He went to Camden Military Academy in Camden, SC, and graduated from Hoggard High School. Growing up he spent lots of time in Hugh MacRae Park playing on the Longly Supply Little League Team with many of his classmates.

A US Navy Veteran, he enjoyed hunting, sports car racing and loved and appreciated good music. Joe loved riding his motorcycle on Airlee Road during the honeysuckle season. He was a Certified Nursing Assistant, during his work in the nursing homes, he was very compassionate towards his patients and loved a good conversation and joke. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his loving daughter: Meredith Leigh Tyson of Wilmington, a devoted and loving mother: Ellen Ellis Powell of Reidsville, NC, three uncles: Bobby Ray Ellis (Linda) of Glennville, GA, Otis Preston Ellis (Evelyn) of Beulaville, NC, and Franklin Jefferson of Enfield, NC, five aunts: Geraldine Overman (Earl) of Aiken, SC, Mary Sue Smith (John) of Plymouth, NC, Phyllis Parrish (Tom) of Smithfield, NC, Hazel Pearsall (Bob) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Peggy Nanney (Carl) of Greenville, SC, And a host of cousins.

Many thanks to the loving care he received by the staff of Avante of Reidsville, and thanks to his family and many friends who have been so faithful and supportive of him during his illness.
