GREENSBORO William Nelson "Bill" Alexander, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital
A graveside service will be Friday, October 26 at 3 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery 316 Witty Road, Summerfield, NC, conducted Rev. James Raines.
Bill was born in Canton, NC, on August 12, 1924 to James Marvin Alexander and Thelma Smathers Alexander. He graduated from Canton High School and was a student at Oak Ridge Military Academy. He was part of the "Greatest Generation," and served his country in World War II in the US Army. He was stationed in France for three years in the 399th Regiment, 100th Infantry. He was wounded twice. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Bill was a graduate of Bolling Green University in Bolling Green, KY. He served for forty years as a purchasing agent for Daniel Construction Company. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Bill a member of the YMCA, and worked out every day, Monday through Friday since 1987.
He is survived by his son, Fort Alexander, of Chesapeake, VA; brother, Jerry Alexander, of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his son, James Carl Alexander.
